Using Mind Maps To Revise History

Mr Shorter led a session at last night's Revision Evening for Parents and Carers in which he shared a strategy for using mind maps and mp3s to revise for History GCSE. His powerpoint is here, this will guide students through the process; they can find mp3s to practise this technique on Moodle.

For the parents and carers of those students who qualify for extra time in exams, here are some tips from Mr Rowland on how to make the most of it. This presentation was originally shared at the Parents and Carers Revision Evening.

What students should be doing this week (w/c 27th April)

Students should continue with their revision programme remembering to spread the revision across all subjects and not just to concentrate on the subjects where the exams come first. There was an assembly today (Monday) in which students were given the booklet which outlines the exam arrangements. It is vital that students follow the guidance in here, particularly around mobile phones and smart watches. The study leave booster programme is being finalised this week and will be circulated to students on Friday.

What students should be doing this week (w/c 20th April)

By this point students should be in a steady routine of revision. This is the point that many students like to increase the amount of time they are spending on revision from one session per night (about one and half hour hours) to two sessions (about three hours in total) but each student is different. Those students who are not sure or who need additional help with revision should see Mr Taylor as soon as possible.

Topic Lists

In the a flurry of activity before I go off for two weeks I have uploaded some of the topic lists that students can use to plan their revision. Click here to open a Word Document which contains details of the content of the French, Geography, German and RE exams. Students doing Foundation Maths can click here for the topics they need. If they are doing Higher Maths then click here. There is a History checklist here. Finally, last year I linked the Science department's revision checklist to the relevant sections of BBC Bitesize (which are being changed but still work for now), students can access the Additional Science list here.

Revision Planner

All students should now have a copy of the Revision Planner, if not they can download one here or get one from Mrs Bullock in the Humanities Admin Office next to TC8.
